Swakopmund loosely translated means “the mouth of the tail of the snake,” which, in fact, is appropriately confusing imagery to describe
the nature of the town. For example, Swakopmund claims as its own the Baron Pieter van Ginkel. Swakopmund’s Baron is, indeed, of noble
birth, but rather than sipping tea in a smoking jacket, Pieter runs the Swakopmund Adventure Centre at the base of the Swakop River
out of a building he constructed himself.
The Adventure Park centers on a huge outdoor paintball complex, cleverly built into
the vegetation and banks along the Swakop riverbed. Also on offer are quad biking, bungee bouncing, target shooting, volleyball, tug-o-war,
laser pigeon shooting, parasailing and just about anything else adventurous you can think of.
